Chapter 231 - SaiKano
I do apologise for so many anime related posts lately... Can't help it though - life not exciting enough to blog about other stuff... haha... (or so I say... ;p)

Anyway, while being a voyeur and searching for blogs which posted on CosFest VI, i stumbled upon Raydance's livejournal site, who incidentally was one of the Cosplayers at afore-mentioned CosFest. She was dressed at Chise from SaiKano - which got me interested in the anime. Before I talk about the anime, I better post pics of Raydance's costume here first...

I hope one of the first thing's you notice is that the photo is a lot sharper than the ones I posted before.

I kinda like this 2nd one myself... It's kinda like a poster shot eh? I've also got more of the other shots, although not processed in my CosFest album

So moving on to the anime SaiKano - it's about this girl called Chise who is also an ultimate weapon in the ongoing war, who falls in love with Shinji, her classmate. It's a 12-episode anime, and I've just finished episode 8, so i imagine I will finish it soon. At the moment, it's still kinda tragically sad and sweet... Such sweet sorrow this anime is...

Chapter 230 - Cam-whoring
On Friday night, the group of teachers(-to-be) went out for a "celebratory" dinner at Ramen-ten at Far East Plaza. It was much fun Cam-whoring and was a finger-bending experience (read on!)...

I had a big bowl of Spicy Chicken Karaage Ramen, which was REALLY filling.... And i've been wanting to eat Ramen since I got back, cos everytime go to GV Tampines Mall will pass by Ajisen Ramen... yummy....

For some reason, the guys I know are generally greater cam-whore/posers than the gals... (the other incident which demonstrates this is probably Magdalene May Ball, which i've yet to post much photos yet)... Just so I remember - (Left to Right) Kim Yong, Faizal, Me, Tony

The gals, all snuggled up to the other end of the table... (L to R) Pei Pei, Fadi, Shijia, Yihan, Juansa, Ai-Li, Chermaine

For some reason, Ch(E)rmaine can't stand the sight of a bent first joint of the finger (refer to picture), so it was kinda nightmarish seeing all these bent fingers around her... I bet she'll have sleepless nights for a whole year... ;p
"The Finger"

Thereafter, we went to Hyatt Hotel - only to use the toilet that is... haha.. and we spent the next 15 minutes after that taking photos inside the Hyatt lobby..
Cannot let the students see all these photos man... Can you imagine all these people in the photos are actually teachers(-to-be)? hahaha... The flipside eh...

We also found a hidden escalator! (refer to the caption for the first photo... ;p)

We then proceeded to Coffee Bean, Wheelock Place, where there was already a queue for the Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows book release the next morning - not to mention fans dressed in robes and wands... These underage wizards... tsk tsk...

Fadi tried to use her "listening ear"

While Ch(e)rmaine seems to have been hit by a Hair Growth Jinx and had facial hair sprouting all over the place!

And for the record also, I've finished the Harry Potter books liaoz.. muahahahhaha.. *evil grinz* Go read go read... ;p

Chapter 229 - Haruhi Suzumiya - Hare Hare Yukai Dance!
if you've always wondered whether you should get started on anime, maybe you should just watch this video - it's from the anime "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya" and the dance is absolutely catchy.. You'll be up on your feet in no time....

It's no wonder lots of fans started learning the dance... ;p
One of the better performers I've seen so far, although the music quality isn't great in this video. And the fact that I think the characters should be petite.... Small is good... ;p

Chapter 228 - Bankai!

Kenny's Zanpakutō:

Kenny carries Crimson Tail, Infinite Funeral sealed into the form of a walking stick. At the command "Escape, Crimson Tail, Infinite Funeral!" it transforms into an elegant, bent sansetsukon. It blurs the wielder's appearance, confounding opponents' attempts to target.

What's Your Zanpakutō?

Chapter 226 - Cosplay
WAH. Never knew there was such a big cosplay community in Singapore. When I first tried searching for anime merchandise on eBay, i was wondering, "who the hell will buy such stuff for Cosplay and when will they have the chance to use it?" So ehre's the answer. There was a "CosFEST" at Taka last weekend, which I missed... damn sad lah, then I see all the photos, I also want (to participate.. haha)

Zangetsu from Bleach. BANKAI!

Yachiru-san from Bleach - it's the person on my MSN display picture in case you haven't figured out yet...

Death Note anyone???

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya! I wanna watch the performance man.. confirm they do the dance at the ending credits one!

Better link you to the original photos, which can be found on the Clubsnap Forums, at the following threads: #1 and #2. And there's also a Singapore Cosplay site!

Damn cool lah. I also want! Never mind, this weekend they are supposedly going to Downtown East - I shall go and see it for myself. If you want more information, there's more information at this thread or this site.

Chapter 224 - Moulding the Future of the Nation
I just watched Channel U's "Internship Challenge", which showcases 2 students doing their internships. This week, the students were from Early Childhood Education from Ngee Ann Poly and they did a 1 month attachment at the Little Skool-House International. I thought I really liked the programme - because you could really see the progress of the students learning to be teachers, very similar to what i'm doing right now. If there's a re-telecast, be sure to catch it.

And in case you haven't found out yet, I'm doing my school attachment at Dunman Secondary. Am currently "shadowing" (gosh, i feel like a stalker) the HOD, Maths around. Haven't actually got to do any classroom teaching, although I did do quite a bit of individual tutoring (because i've been following the Sec 4/5 classes and they're doing revision and preparing for the O levels), including a mini-"tuition" session for a student who asked for more help. Thus far, I must say it's been quite a fulfilling 7 days, although I must say a lot of what we're doing is self-directed, i.e. we have to initiate the classroom observations that we want to go for ourselves. Can't wait to start teaching - which I realise is not gonna be for another 2 years!!! *frownz*

Some things I bet they don't teach you in NIE
1. During morning assembly, if it's in the car park and you have to stand in front of a car, be sure to check that the car isn't radiating too much heat, otherwise, you might roast in a slow and painful fashion during the announcements.

2. Make sure you don't drink coffee right before class. I did that during recess one day and went into class. And then one of the students told me, "(tea-)cher [teacher has now been abbreviated to "cher". i suppose spelling it out, it's kind of an endearment term eh? like mon CHER-ie. ;p], you drink coffee ah?" I suppose the coffee breath gave it away. So now I carry mints in my pocket. muahaha...

3. Apparently, if your school has a red tie for teachers, which we wear on Monday together with all the students (who wear a maroon tie), a white shirt seems to be the preferred choice of coloured shirts on that day. I went into Mr Kang's class to observe only to have the students burst into laughter when they saw the both of us in our white shirts and red ties ("cher, you all brothers ah?"). And it didn't help when the next teacher who walked by the classroom and then the vice-principal, also wore a white shirt with a red tie. I bet they were wondering why the whole class was hysterical when they went by. Mr Kang took off his tie soon after.... ;p

4. Any female teacher you're seen walking with is probably your girlfriend - if only it was that easy... haha

I'm also supposed to have a project to complete - How to apply "Teach Less, Learn More" to Maths... ideas anyone?

Chapter 223 - National Day Parade
Was quite lucky to get to watch the (one of the) preview(s) of the National Day Parade yesterday - at what's been touted as the World's Largest floating platform/stage - afterall, what other purpose does anyone require a floating platform at all?

Having not been to or watched a National Day Parade in a long time, i thought it was pretty impressive this year. The displays were exciting, and made full use of the venue - with displays from the water area, apache displays from the air, even fireworks from buildings on Shenton Way.
A pity it only sits some 25,000 spectators and i'm sure it won't be quite as exciting on TV as it was live.

Chapter 222 - Dim Sum Dollies

Went to watch the preview of Dim Sum Dollies - The History of Singapore yesterday (i love complimentary tix... ;p) Other than waiting an eternity after house lx went to half at the start of the show (during which house music came back on), Selina's skirt bursting and falling off (which I missed the falling off bit) during one of the songs, Emma's top which couldn't be zipped up from the back exposing her back, it was more or less ready... ;p

And there are sooo many witty jokes in the show, which are cunning-LEE and strategical-LEE placed, and depends on whether you catch them or not. Just bear in mind - if you are an CHIJ convent girl, make sure you don't wear your IJ uniform to the show, otherwise damn sia suay and you probably have to bury your head in the plastic bag when you leave the theatre.

Otherwise, it's pretty much your typical installment of the Dim Sum Dollies, fairly cleverly scripted, although some scenes were slightly boring during the first half I thought. Will I recommend it? Most definitely, especially if you haven't watched any of the Dim Sum Dollies shows before. :)

------------------------------
This is amidst the million other shows I've watched since I got back, such as Transformers, Nancy Drew, Die Hard 4.0 (tomorrow!) and Harry Potter (next week!) and lots of anime.....

Chapter 221 - GST Hike
On the increase of GST to 7%

My mother exclaims during our weekly shopping at NTUC, (translated) "Wah, ah boy (referring to my dog)'s can food now $1.83! Last time only $1.80.".

Chapter 220 - A Tribute to the National Stadium
One of the first things I did when i got back to Singapore, other than gorge myself on food, and feeling really hot and sticky, was heading to the National Stadium for its closing ceremony, which included a match between Singapore and Australia (which we lost of course... ;p).

I must say I'm surprised a number of my friends haven't actually been to the National Stadium before... Personally I've been there donkey times - for National Day Parade, supporting the Singapore Lions during the Malaysia Cup time (which was donkey years ago), National Track & Field (which I never ran.. haha), and even just to do administrative stuff (read: Boring meetings for the IOC meeting thingy...). So i suppose i am quite familiar with the Stadium... Nonetheless, I wonder what the new stadium will be like....

The antique LED display screens

Distinctive flood lights

Disappointing fireworks were mostly what people complained about. There were about as "bursts" as the number of hair on Snoopy's head.

Fireworks shots were shot handheld, hence explains why it's slightly blur...
