Chapter 11 - A Brand New Room, A Brand New Start..
Ah.. so E-X-C-I-T-I-N-G... I've waited close to TWO whole weeks to move into my room.. and finally I'm nice and settled... =) *grinz* Hurray hurray.. *hops & jumps about* oops... I forgot, I've got a really big window that everyone can look into.. ;p

Anyway anyway anyway... I've got pictures!

My room as it will look when you enter through the door.. It's HUGE i tell you.. at least comparing it to the rooms I saw in London... ;p See I've got nice bright chirpy colourful bedsheets and duvet cover... And my coffee table, which houses my kettle and coffee maker is just next to my bed...

The right side of my room.. That table/cupboard top is home to my breakfast.... Bread, jam, peanut butter, milk... etc etc... And my table lamp from home!

My wardrobe!... You can tell I brought ALOT of clothes.. It's like FULL already... Oh no.. How am I gonna stuff it with the stuff I need to buy from Zara, Top Man, and more!?!?!

My wash basin... Nicely hidden behind 2 cupboard looking doors... =)

*grinz* I'm happy with my room.... *satisfied look* That's it for now...

PS: If you haven't noticed, I've added Chapters 3 - 5 already. Chapter 6 - The Land of Shakespeare will be coming up soon! =) Tag tag tag!

Chapter 10 - Beautiful Cambridge
When Fraser drove me into Cambridge and King's college came into sight after the trees... I was like WOW WOW WOW... I mean, such beautiful architecture, and it's JUST A COLLEGE? So anyway, after having put my stuff down in Churchill, I set off to "discover" Cambridge...

This is one of the smaller buildings of King's College... (I think...) They've got a really nice chapel which supposedly has a really good choir.. I have to go there one day... Gotta pay though.. Hmmz....

This is Sidney Sussex college... The college that's right in front of Sainsbury's... I mean what the hell.. It's like "Ok, i'm going to the supermarket..." And then they step out of college and there they are! So much for travelling...

And this is punting.. Basically a long stick stuck into the ground and use to push the boat along River Cam... as they say... "if you wanna get anywhere in Cambridge, punt"... Ok.. I think it's a pretty bad pun though... hahaha

And finally on Wednesday the 28th, Kenny gets onto his first punt... Together with 5 other Singaporeans (mums inclusive..) And here're some more photos of beautiful Cambridge....

Here's Sheila and Tien Yi on the punt with our guide/chaffeur...

St John's College... (I think) It's another of the huge colleges...

The Bridge of Sighs in the background... Well, supposedly this bridge was supposed to mimic the Bridge of Sighs in Venice... and it's called so, because the prisoners had to cross the bridge to the order side where they were to be executed... And it is joked that in St John's, the students are made to cross the bridge to collect their exam results... =)

Trinity College (once again, i'm not quite sure.. there're so many of them...).. A smaller side of it...

King's college in its full splendour... It's really nice...

And the chapel that I mentioned earlier in its full splendour... (If only I could photoshop the guy away...)

The Mathematical Bridge at Queen's College.. Supposedly, the engineer for the bridge designed and built the bridge in such a way that the nuts and bolts on the bridge does not actually hold any weight of the bridge... ie. the bridge pretty much supports itself....

Ok.. That's it for Beautiful Cambridge for now.. And honestly, I'm not doing justice to Cambridge, cos it really is a nice place... So for now, be patient and anticipate Part 2. =)

Chapter 9 - The Great Migration
On the morning of the 26th, Kenny prepares to leave London for Cambridge... But before he does that, he's gotta meet up with some of the Londoners for breakfast first....

The Last Breakfast (in London)

Ok, and moving on, Maestro Fraser had very kindly offered to send Kenny to Cambridge, and that was really helpful because getting onto a train with a backpack, haversack, laptop bag, plastic bag and a suitcase is by far a task meant only for Hercules...

And here's Fraser who's also holding a copy of Mozart's Symphony for Two Pianos (which he'll be playing in a few week's time) standing beside his nice blue Citroen.... And thus began the arduous journey from London...

47 miles to the promised land... Took us about an hour and a half before I finally set food on Churchill College...

Where I proudly stand outside the Porter's Lodge having collected my keys... and then set off to...

Staircase 47 where my room was supposed to be... And well... when I opened my room, I was shocked, stunned, astonished *gasp* to find that my room was already occupied! Haiz... so anti-climax... Well, anyway, to cut the long story short, I was put in another room just above mine for a week until my occupant had moved out...

So, we set off for town where I got some of my rations and electrical items like a kettle for my room... =) And after a long day of shopping, we gather back in my room, where now equipped with a kettle and tea, we were ready to enjoy a cup of nice English tea...

Chapter 8 - Musicals Galore!
So I finally got back to London on the night of the 23rd... And then on the 24th, I met up with Pierre (Mr Pay-Top-Priced-Tix-For-All-Musicals guy) and Fraser (maestro!) for lunch at Pizza Express. Thereafter, I decided, since I was in London, why not go for some musicals? Afterall, I won't be in London much in a few days' time... So, I went to get tix... Managed to get Les Misérables tix for the 2.30pm Matinee at 2.15pm, and then hurried down to the theatre for the show. (Paid £22.05 for the tix but wasn't fantastic seats).

That's the theatre that Les Misérables runs in... It's a nice cosy theatre... Les Misérables was REALLY good I must say... Really enjoyed it.. And I really liked the "I Dreamed a Dream" song sung by the little Fantine... Oh... her voice was so... enchanting.... and sweet.... *faints* And the actors were good too.. Like Valjean and Javert....

And then after Les Misérables, I decided that I shall go for yet another musical... so went shopping for tix.. and because it was a a Saturday night, most of the better shows were already sold out... and I could only be content with Fame - The Musical... Paid £27 for stall seats, fifth row from the front.. That's a really good buy... And I didn't realise that I've watched Fame in Singapore (with a mediocre Australian cast) until I walked into the theatre and saw...

But... having said that, I enjoyed it much more this time around because the cast was much better and their energies were so high you could feel the heat from where you were... And that pretty much concludes my stay in London, where the only other interesting stuff worth mentioning was some Harley Davidson thingy that involved hundreds of Harleys just driving through the streets... Cool... vroom vroom!

Chapter 6 - The Land of Shakespeare
As I said earlier, next stop: Coventry/Warwick/Kenilworth/Stratford.. =)

So I woke up EARLY on the morning of the 22nd so I could catch bus 900 from Birmingham to Coventry to meet Junhui. =) And it was quite a long journey... About one and a half hours... On the way, I passed some farmland which kinda looked liked maize fields... it's aMAIZEing.. ;p Then when I reached Coventry, I was greeted by an excited Junhui who was to be my guide for the day.... And my guide had decided that we were gonna visit Stratford-upon-Avon, (ie. birthplace of Shakespeare) and we were gonna visit a teddy bear museum.. *gasp* haha...

Well, so we took a bus passing through Warwick Uni, Kenilworth (where Junhui was staying), and finally we reached Stratford...
(Corrie: This picture's for u... ;p)

We had lunch this.... cafe place... and anyway, it's so interesting when I went to the toilets and found that there was door labelled "Ladies" and to its right, there was this door with no sign but with a see-through glass window and there on the wall behind the door, I was greeted by the words "DUREX". Yeah. I thought.. "wow.. what a way to mark a men's toilet... ;p" Oops, I digress....

After lunch, we visited the Teddy Bear Museum... =)
Which was quite cool, but not the museum bit sadly.. I tot the merchandise shop was more interesting.. Haha.. They even had a teddy bear wearing a kimono which is supposed to mimic "Madama Butterfly" (it's an opera by Puccini)And this is the part where Kenny says: Teddy Bear 高过小男孩!(OK. If you didn't get it, TOO BAD!)

We walked to the river Avon thereafter.. where there were lots of ducks and swans...
And I daresay the pigeons were feeling quite left out... Cos the ducks and swans were like wading and playing in the water whereas the pigeons could only stand on the sidewalks... Poor pigeons... Orh... And we went for a boat cruise! Quite fun... We basically sit in a boat and they take us up and down the river and we take in the scenic sights along the river...

Junhui on the boat having her tea.. (And I'm sure Junhui's gonna kill me for using the picture.. haha.. You've gotta come to Cambridge to kill me then... ;p)

This photo has been hereby christened "The Bench". No reproduction of the works without prior permission of the photographer (That's me!) is allowed.

More nice shots along the river....

And that pretty much concludes Stratford, cos we headed back to Kenilworth, where I got to dump my 15kg backpack that I've been carrying around and we headed for Warwick Uni... I must say Warwick Uni's a nice and modern place... Really spacious too.. We had dinner at this cafe called Xanana's and we played abit of pool before freezing out at the busstop cos the bus schedules were ridiculously inaccurate (Welcome to the UK!).

The adventures of Coventry/Warwick/Kenilworth/Stratford ends here with Kenny setting off back to London, via Birmingham the very next morning........... zzzzZZZZZ

Chapter 5 - Gay days in Birmingham...
Alright, clarification, when I mean gay, i mean like happy and gay... ;p

So I spent my next couple of days (20/9 - 21/9) in Birmingham exploring the town, together with *cough* Allan. Anyway, I was staying at Allan's sister (Selina)'s place.. So I was rudely awakened the next morning (after my coach ride) with kids bouncing all over me. Hehz. But they're really cute lah.

That's the room that the children were sleeping in... =)

And then the very first day, we met up with Shuying who is Allan's fellow SPF scholar, who's studying at Uni. of Birmingham. And we headed for town where Allan kinda wanted to take the Wheel of Birmingham...
so we all went... But honestly, it wasn't much of a view lah.. I mean hello.. Birmingham? haha. =) but at least we got to go 5 rounds... haha...

Then we visited the Art Museum or something... where we played "dress-Allan-up" at this section we came across...Shuying and I did quite a good job right? ;p

And we walked a really long way through city centre to this shopping area called Bull Ring.. it's supposed to be the HUMONGOUS-EST shopping mall in the whole of Europe.. and it was huge alright... and the best thing? It has an Apple store. =)
After walking for a bit more, we went for lunch in Chinatown, then walked a really long way to Allan's brother-in-law's shop at Jewellery Quarters... then walked a really long way back... (notice we've been walking since we started? *pant*)

FINALLY, we got home and we helped Selina prepare dinner... which was a really delicious yummy meal, consisting of pork chops with oranges, roast potatoes and grilled mushrooms with cheese. YUMMY! And that pretty much concludes DAY ONE... =)

DAY TWO:

Allan and I decide to visit Cadbury World (@ Bourneville). And I mean why not.. after all we've all watched Charlie & The Chocolate Factory right? =)
This way to Cadbury World it says...

Then when we entered, there were like some exhibits about how Cadbury came to become Cadbury, etc.. Quite interesting really.. And the best part? They give you chocolate bars to munch on when you enter... So you're like "Oh *chomp* so that's how chocolate *chomp* is made..." And then we visited the packaging plant, where we saw how the chocolate is packaged, boxed, etc...

Well... that's JUST a huge tub of chocolate... Fondue anyone?

Kenny @ Cadbury World... I just had to take a picture of the huge Cadbury... =)

So after visiting the Cadbury World, having lots of chocolate stuffed into our tummies, and lugging another tonne of chocolate from the shop, we finally set off back to Birmingham, where we tried to go go-karting, but it was fully booked.. So we took a walk down a canal instead... And did you know that there're more canals in England than there are in Venice? Well, it's really cool anyway, and we came across a canal boat, which looks like this:

And that was Allan flirting... Anyway, it's really cool, cos they kinda live on these boats and they travel through the canals, and I mean you could travel by canal from London to Birmingham and even further! And apparently, you have to get a license or something... Cos they have to cross locks:

which is something to help you get across canals of differing water levels.... (otherwise it'll be very much like whitewater rafting... ;p

And that concludes Kenny's adventures in Birmingham... Next stop: Warwick!

Chapter 4 - Lost at Greenline...
Anyway, after all my adventures to Hyde Park, I had yet ANOTHER adventure... Getting to the coach station... 'Cos I had to leave most of my luggage with Gullnaz (Thanks!), I had to wait for her to check in, which the stupid people only allowed her to do so at 2pm... So by the time we were done, it was 2.25pm, which leaves me with 35 mins to find Greenline Coach Station @ Victoria Street, which I had to try navigate with my 15kg backpack.

So, after asking for directions, I set off running with my backpack in search for Greenline Coach Station.. And people were probably wondering, who's this nuts chinese guy running through the streets with a huge backpack... And after about 25 mins of running (it was exhausting... ever seen ants carrying a rock and running about? ;p), I asked again for directions and this time, was directed to take a bus to Victoria Station, which took me abother 10 mins. Well, i'm sure it doesn't take a Mathematical genius to know that that adds up to 3pm. Or just a few minutes before 3pm. And at Victoria Station, I found out that it was still ANOTHER 5 mins to the coach station. SCREWED. And as I was running madly, arms flailing, to the coach station, (imagine "Chariots of Fire" playing in the background) I saw.... the bus to Birmingham turn into the streets. Could die.

Anyway, so I had to book another tix to Birmingham on the next coach which was 3 hours later and costs me another freaking £9.50. Grr. And considering I only arrived in the morning, it was way too much of an adventure for me... But yeah, I did get there in the end... =)

That's the Megabus that I took... Cute right?

That's Kenny on the bus... yes, ME, that's a self-potrait... ;p

As I was quite zonked out on the bus, the only image i recall seeing were streaks of light from the cars that went by.... haha. =)
